Notary services

Notary services

Under current legislation  (D.L. 71/2011), the notarial services are only available to Italian citizens who are permanently or temporarily abroad.
To sign notarial deeds and for other services, foreign nationals must refer to a Notary Public in the United Kingdom.
For a list of notaries known to this Consulate General click here (link).

The notarial deeds signed at this Consulate General are valid to be used in the territory of the Italian Republic  and at any Italian Embassy or Consulate abroad. Italian citizens who are in UK and need to sign a notarial deed to be valid in the UK or any other Country but Italy, will need to contact a notary public in the United Kingdom.

British documents to be valid in Italy must be legalised by means of an apostille. To obtain this please contact:

Foreign and Commonwealth Office
PO Box 6255
Milton Keynes MK10 1XX
Tel. 03700 00 22 44 (from the UK), +44 20 7008 5959 (from outside the UK)
web address:

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 virus, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the UK’s competent authority for legalisation of documents under the Hague Convention, confirms that the United Kingdom is currently unable to accept documents for legalisation or apply apostilles after 23 March 2020. The FCO is trying to issue apostilles in small volumes for urgent and exceptional documents, but the service could experience some delays. Therefore we would greatly appreciate if you could refrain from sending documents to be legalise throughout this period.

The FCO will endeavour to resume services as soon as possible.
