Qualifications Office

Declaration of Value

The Qualifications Office of the Consulate General of Italy in London only issues “Dichiarazioni di Valore” (Declarations of Value, DV) of British qualifications – issued by recognised educational institutions (schools, colleges and universities) or professional bodies – that fall under the British education/university system (part of England and Wales).

The Italian Consulate in Manchester is competent for those qualifications obtained in their catchment area and includes: Cheshire County, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Durham, East Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Merseyside, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Shropshire, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Tyne and Wear, West Midlands, West Yorkshire and the Isle of Man.

Scotland and Northern Ireland qualifications fall within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in Edinburgh.

To have your British qualifications recognised in Italy, whether to continue your studies (school/University), or for work purposes, you will need to contact the relevant Italian Consulate, who will issue a “Dichiarazione di Valore” (DV).

This is a declaration whereby the Consulate confirms the value of the qualifications attained in Great Britain, with reference to the local educational system.

The “DV” is neither an equivalent of an Italian qualification nor a comparability certificate.

It will be up to the relevant Italian institutions (Ministry of Education, Uffici Scolastici Provinciali, Universities, etc.) to subsequently declare if a foreign qualification has a similar Italian equivalent: this is called “equipollenza” (equivalence/certificate of comparability).

It is possible to ask CIMEA (Information Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence) for a Statement of Comparability and a Statement of Verification for your academic and non-academic qualifications https://www.cimea.it/EN/pagina-attestati-di-comparabilita-e-verifica-dei-titoli.

The above mentioned Statements from CIMEA are accepted by Universities https://www.cimea.it/EN/pagina-attestati-universita and by numerous Institutions (recognition procedure for public competition, Pension related reasons etc) https://www.cimea.it/EN/pagina-riconoscimento-non-accademico.

Please note that the “Declaration of Value” can only be requested for already-completed study cycles (e.g., A-level, Bachelor, Master, etc.).

Recognition of Italian qualifications in the United Kingdom

Those who need to have their Italian qualifications recognised in the UK need to contact ENIC https://www.enic.org.uk/.

For the translation of Italian qualifications into English, please note that this Consulate General does not certify translations carried out by the interested parties.

Schools and academic authorities as well as British professional associations accept translations carried out by “certified translators”. For a list please visit the website of the “Yellow Pages” (www.yell.com) or consult the list of translators available from the website of this Consulate General.
