Powers of attorney

Powers of attorney

Italian nationals who wish to formalise a power of attorney at this Consulate will need to come to the Notary Office in person, by prior appointment (click here for an appointment), with a valid identity document (passport or Italian Identity Card) and their Italian fiscal code. They will also need to provide details of their residence and marital status. A photocopy of the ID and Italian fiscal code of the attorney should also be provided.

Before the date of the appointment, you must send to this email address: notarile.londra@esteri.it a draft of the power of attorney in editable format (MS Words RTF), written by the Italian notar/solicitor, for the following types of power of attorney:

  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR THE PURCHASE OR SALE OF PROPERTIES
  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR LAWSUITS
  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY TO COLLECT BONDS FROM THE ITALIAN POST OFFICE
  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY TO COLLECT MONEY FROM AN ITALIAN BANK OR POST OFFICE
  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR PORPERTY MANAGEMENT
  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY TO GIVE AND TO ACCEPT DONATION
  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY TO SELL SHARES

For the following powers of attorney it is not necessary to send any draft. Instead the person must provide the information requested which vary according to the type of power of attorney to be formalised:

  • GENERAL POWER OF ATTORNEY
  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR INHERITANCE MATTERS
  • SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY TO WAIVE OR ACCEPT INHERITANCE
  • REVOCATION OF POWER OF ATTORNEY

Italian nationals who urgently need to sign a power of attorney when no timely appointments are available may refer to a notary in the UK (click here for a list). Then they will proceed to have the power of attorney legalised by means of an Apostille issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. For this service please contact:
