Iure matrimonii ex. Art 10 L. 555/1912 – Foreign woman married to an Italian citizen before 27/04/1983 according to Art 10 L. 555/1912

Foreign women married to Italian citizens before 27th April 1983 have the right to automatically acquire Italian citizenship (law n. 123/1983).

Applications are also accepted in the event of a divorce, if formalised after 27th April 1983 – when this legislation came into force.

For further information on the documentation required and appointment’s allocation, the applicant should contact the Citizenship Office via email (cittadinanza.londra@esteri.it ), providing the following details:

  • Applicant’s name, maiden surname, place and date of birth;
  • Marriage date and location;
  • Italian husband’s name, surname, place and date of birth;
  • Address and proof of residence in the United Kingdom of both the applicant and the Italian husband;
  • Proof of the ongoing marriage.

Consular fee of 300 EUR – The payment must be made on the day of the appointment in GBP with a British debit card according to the quarterly exchange rate published on the Italian Consulate General website.
