WHAT IT IS: Self-certification is a written declaration that replaces the certificates usually issued by public administrations and public service providers. The person who writes and signs it assumes personal responsibility for what is declared.
WHAT CAN BE SELF-CERTIFIED: a status (e.g.: being the owner of a property; being the heir of a certain person;…), personal qualities (being the owner of a business; been exempted from income tax;…) or facts (having been damaged by a natural disaster; …) certifiable by a public administration, except those that must be the object of sworn declarations.
WHOM IT CAN BE USED WITH:
- public administration (Municipalities, Consulates,…);
- Public service providers (ENEL, ACI, Telecom,…);
- Private institutions (banks, insurance companies,…) which are obliged to accept it as per n. 120/2020.
WHO CAN SIGN IT:
- Italian citizens over the age of 18;
- EU citizens over the age of 18;
- Extra-EU citizens with Italian residence (only for information verifiable by Italian authorities and for matters object of an agreement between Italy and the country of nationality).
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:
Self-certifications do NOT require signature authentication and therefore they are not a service offered by this Consulate. It will be sufficient to attach a photocopy of a valid identity document of the signatory to the signed declaration.
