A non-exhaustive list of notaries known to this Consulate is available <a href=\"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/info-utili\/professionisti-ed-enti\/\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A general power of attorney is a document by which a trusted person is granted the authority to manage all of one&#8217;s affairs, both present and future. A general power of attorney is issued for an indefinite period and remains valid until the death of the principal or the attorney-in-fact, or until revoked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BOOKING PROCEDURE AND SERVICE COST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Italian citizens who wish to sign a general power of attorney at the Consulate must request an appointment by emailing <a href=\"mailto:notarile.londra@esteri.it\">notarile.londra@esteri.it<\/a>. The email should include the following information:<\/p>\n<p>Full name, date and place of birth, residential address, Italian tax code (codice fiscale), and marital status (single, separated, divorced, widowed, married under the community of property regime, or married under the separation of property regime) of the person granting the power of attorney);<\/p>\n<p>Full name, date and place of birth, residential address, and Italian tax code (codice fiscale) of the person receiving the power of attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Once the request has been verified and accepted, the Notary Office will offer an appointment.<\/p>\n<p>The person granting the power of attorney must attend the appointment in person, as must their spouse\u2014but only in cases where the marriage is subject to the community of property regime (&#8220;<strong>comunione dei beni<\/strong>&#8220;). Please bring:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The appointment confirmation email;<\/li>\n<li>A valid form of identification;<\/li>\n<li>A UK debit card for payment. The cost of the service is listed in the Table of Consular Fees: <a href=\"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/info-utili\/tariffe-consolari\/\"> 17a<\/a> (fixed fee for the general power of attorney) and <a href=\"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/info-utili\/tariffe-consolari\/\">Art. 25<\/a> (fee per certified copy requested; minimum of one). Please note that payments at the Consulate can only be made using a UK debit card (contactless, Apple Pay, credit cards, and Italian debit cards are not accepted).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>USE OF THE GENERAL POWER OF ATTORNEY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the day of the appointment, the Consulate will issue the number of certified copies of the general power of attorney requested by the person signing. The principal is responsible for sending the paper original to the attorney-in-fact (using a private courier service rather than Royal Mail is recommended). The Consulate cannot issue statements certifying the conformity of digital copies to paper originals. Additional certified paper copies may be requested by following the appropriate procedure. The general power of attorney may be revoked at any time via a specific formal act.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Special Power of Attorney for Litigation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The service for signing powers of attorney and notarial deeds at this Consulate General of Italy in London is reserved exclusively for Italian citizens <a href=\"https:\/\/www.normattiva.it\/uri-res\/N2Ls?urn:nir:stato:decreto.legislativo:2011-02-03;71\">(Legislative Decree 71\/2011).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Foreign nationals (and Italian citizens unable to visit the Consulate) can obtain powers of attorney and notarial deeds valid in Italy by signing them before any British notary public; the document must then be apostilled by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/get-document-legalised\">Legalisation Office<\/a> (many notaries offer this service as well). A non-exhaustive list of notaries known to this Consulate is available <a href=\"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/info-utili\/professionisti-ed-enti\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A special power of attorney for litigation is a document used to grant representation to one&#8217;s chosen legal counsel for one or more stages of a specific judicial proceeding in which the person granting the power is involved as a party.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BOOKING PROCEDURE AND SERVICE COST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Italian citizens wishing to sign a special power of attorney for litigation at the Consulate must request an appointment by emailing <a href=\"mailto:notarile.londra@esteri.it\">notarile.londra@esteri.it<\/a>, and attaching a draft of the power of attorney in question\u2014prepared by a notary in Italy\u2014in an editable format (Word).<\/p>\n<p>Once the request has been verified and accepted, the Notary Office will offer an appointment at the Consulate.<\/p>\n<p>Only the person granting the power of attorney should attend the appointment. Please bring:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The appointment confirmation email;<\/li>\n<li>A valid identity document;<\/li>\n<li>A UK debit card. The cost of the service is as specified in <a href=\"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/info-utili\/tariffe-consolari\/\"> 18a of the Consular Fees<\/a>. Please note that payments at the Consulate can only be made using a British debit card (no contactless, no Apple Pay, no credit cards, no Italian debit cards).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>USE OF THE SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR LITIGATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The original special power of attorney will be issued on the day of the appointment. You must personally arrange for the original hard copy to be sent to the legal representative (use of a private courier service is recommended rather than Royal Mail). The Consulate cannot issue statements certifying the conformity of digital copies to hard-copy originals.
