{"id":2043,"date":"2022-08-25T15:29:42","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T13:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino\/stato-civile\/per-registrare-i-certificati-di-matrimonio\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T13:51:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T11:51:46","slug":"per-registrare-i-certificati-di-matrimonio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino\/stato-civile\/per-registrare-i-certificati-di-matrimonio\/","title":{"rendered":"How to register a marriage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>HOW TO TRASCRIBE IN ITALY A MARRIAGE CELEBRATED ABROAD <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(updated on 19\/04\/26 \u2013 CP-DC)<\/p>\n<p>For Italian nationals registered in the AIRE at the Consulate General of Italy in London, this Registry Office can process requests for the registration of marriage certificates celebrated both in the United Kingdom and in countries other than the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Italian diplomatic or consular Representation in other countries may process requests for the registration of marriage certificates issued in the country or countries within their jurisdiction as well as certificates of marriages celebrated in the United Kingdom for Italian nationals residing within their jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, requests for the registration in Italy of civil status records relating to events that occurred abroad may also be submitted by the individuals concerned and\/or by anyone with a legitimate interest directly to the competent Italian Municipality (Comune) (see Article 12, paragraph 11, Presidential Decree 396\/2000).<\/p>\n<h4>A.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Registry Office can process requests to transcribe marriage certificates<strong> <u>ONLY<\/u> <\/strong>if the following two prerequisites are met:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Registration in the AIRE of London of at least one of the spouses and an up-to-date residential address:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For information and detailed instructions on how to register in the AIRE or update the address, please <a href=\"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino\/aire\/\">click here<\/a>;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Up-to-date civil status: <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Previous marriages and divorces must be registered\/transcribed in Italy. For information and detailed instructions on how to register\/transcribe a divorce, please <a href=\"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino\/stato-civile\/per-registrare-una-sentenza-di-divorzio\/\">click here<\/a><u>.<\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How to submit a registration request, processing time, and original documents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The procedure is <strong>entirely postal<\/strong>. Documents <strong><u>CANNOT<\/u><\/strong> be submitted in person or by appointment and can only sent by <strong>ROYAL MAIL SPECIAL DELIVERY <\/strong>to:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>CONSULATE GENERAL OF ITALY IN LONDON <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Registry Office<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>83\/86, Farringdon Street<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>London EC4A 4BL<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applications are <strong>processed in chronological order<\/strong> of receipt by the Registry Office. The current processing time for these applications is approximately <strong><u>12<\/u><\/strong><u><strong>weeks<\/strong><\/u>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In compliance with Italian legislation, the complete and correct documentation <u>will be retained in the Consulate archives<\/u>.<\/strong> Additional identical copies of the certificate may be requested from the issuing Registry Office;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Incomplete and\/or incorrect documentation<\/strong> <strong><u>will be returned<\/u><\/strong><u> <strong>to the sender<\/strong><\/u> with a request to provide additional and\/or correct documents;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Requests for confirmation and information<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To confirm receipt of the envelope: <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Visit \u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalmail.com\/\">Royal Mail<\/a> website and check at the page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalmail.com\/track-your-item\">Track your item<\/a> and enter the code printed on the Special delivery receipt;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To check the status of the request:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wait for the notification of transmission sent by this office to the competent Municipality (Comune) via certified email (PEC) and simultaneously to the applicant via ordinary email.
