{"id":2093,"date":"2022-08-31T18:36:05","date_gmt":"2022-08-31T16:36:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/?page_id=2093"},"modified":"2025-07-04T12:14:59","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T10:14:59","slug":"cittadinanza-per-riconoscimento","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza\/cittadinanza-per-riconoscimento\/","title":{"rendered":"Citizenship by Recognition \u2013 Elezione di Cittadinanza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An adult born out of wedlock or before the parents\u2019 marriage may be recognized as biological child by an Italian parent who obtained Italian citizenship <em>iure sanguinis<\/em> (by birth right), via a formal notarial or judicial declaration of parentage (Art. 2(2), Law No. 91\/1992).<br \/>\nThe acquisition of Italian citizenship in such cases is to be intended iure sanguinis (since birth).<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018elezione di cittadinanza\u2019 must be formalized within <strong>one<\/strong> year from the date of the declaration of parentage, made in person by the applicant and the Italian parent at the citizenship office of the relevant Italian authority (see below).<\/p>\n<p>Failure to do so within one year will result in the impossibility to proceed with the recognition of Italian citizenship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> Law No. 74\/2025 (conversion of DL 36\/2025) introduces an exception to automatic <em>iure sanguinis<\/em> acquisition. Accordingly, an adult-recognized child may acquire citizenship under this procedure only if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One parent or grandparent exclusively owns Italian citizenship;<\/li>\n<li>One parent (or adoptive parent) legally and continuously resided in Italy for at least two years after acquiring Italian citizenship and before the birth or adoption of the recognised child.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The declaration of parentage must be formalized in the presence of both the Italian parent and the adult child with the following format:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the Italian parent resides in Italy, the declaration may be formalised by a Notary Public in Italy.<\/li>\n<li>If the Italian parent resides abroad, the declaration may be formalised by the Notary office of the Italian consular mission competent for that area abroad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Residents of this consular district who have already formalized a declaration of parentage recognition, and wish to proceed with the \u2018elezione di cittadinanza\u2019, should e-mail this office (<a href=\"mailto:cittadinanza.londra@esteri.it\">cittadinanza.londra@esteri.it<\/a>) for further instructions on the documents to submit and to schedule an appointment, by specifying:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicant\u2019s full name and surname, place and date of birth<\/li>\n<li>Proof of residence within this consular district (e.g., utility bills, council tax bill &#8211; no driving licence or bank statement).<\/li>\n<li>If applicable: share code to prove immigration status\/VISA in the UK (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/view-prove-immigration-status\">View your eVisa and get a share code to prove your immigration status online &#8211; GOV.UK<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Copy of the declaration of parentage recognition<\/li>\n<li>Italian parent\u2019s full name and surname, place and date of birth<\/li>\n<li>Copy of the Italian passport of the Italian parent<\/li>\n<li>Copy of the applicant\u2019s valid passport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An adult born out of wedlock or before the parents\u2019 marriage may be recognized as biological child by an Italian parent who obtained Italian citizenship iure sanguinis (by birth right), via a formal notarial or judicial declaration of parentage (Art. 2(2), Law No. 91\/1992).
