The applicable legalization procedure depends on the country in which the certificate will be used:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the receiving country is included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcch.net\/en\/states\/hcch-members\">in the list<\/a>, legalization must be carried out by the <strong>UK Legalisation Office<\/strong>. <strong>Italy falls into this category.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If the receiving country is not included in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcch.net\/en\/states\/hcch-members\">that list,<\/a> legalization must be carried out by the embassy or consulate of the receiving country in the United Kingdom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To obtain a translation of a British criminal record certificate that will be valid in Italy, applicants may either:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use a certified translator in the United Kingdom and then obtain an apostille for the translation as well; or<\/li>\n<li>Use a translator whose translation is sworn before (or certified by) an Italian court.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A non-exhaustive list of translators known to the Consulate is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/conslondra.esteri.it\/en\/info-utili\/professionisti-ed-enti\/\">Consulate\u2019s website<\/a>. Since there is no fixed fee schedule for translation services, applicants are advised to compare prices if the first services they find appear excessively expensive.
