Certificate of Non-Renunciation – application of Italian citizenship by descent submitted in Italy

Applicants who move their permanent residence in Italy to apply for Italian citizenship by descent, must liaise with the Italian municipality of residence to finalise the procedure.

Once formally registered with the Municipality Registry Office, applicants can start with their application of Italian citizenship by descent (180-day of legal stay term), by submitting the documents listed in Circolare Ministero dell’Interno K.28.1/1991. The applications must be submitted in person by the applicant, without the mediation of legal agencies or solicitors.

The request of the non-renunciation certificate (‘certificato di non rinuncia’) must be sent to our office directly by the Italian municipality of residence by certified email (PEC).
