  • Self-declaration form pursuant to Presidential Decree 445/2000, duly completed and signed by the Italian parent;
  • Minor’s birth certificate (for the United Kingdom: full birth certificate or certified copy of an entry of birth), duly legalized (*SEE BOX TRANSLATIONS AND LEGALIZATIONS);
  • Translation of the birth certificate into Italian – the Apostille does not need to be translated (*SEE BOX TRANSLATIONS AND LEGALIZATIONS);
  • Photocopy of the parents’ passports or valid identity documents;
  • If available, photocopy of previous identity documents of the Italian parent issued during their period of residence in Italy.

Additionally:

  • Other documentation proving that the minor does not possess (and is not entitled to acquire) another citizenship.

Self-declarations regarding the lack of another citizenship will not be considered valid.

Examples of additional documentation
(We recommend that it include all complete details of the individual concerned, such as full name, any other names/surnames used, date and place of birth, and, if applicable, date of death).
Note: The Consulate may deem it necessary to request further documentation.

For the United Kingdom:

  • Share code (obtainable from the Gov.uk website) for parent(s) holding pre-settled status or UK visa (residence, work, etc.)

Plus

  • Official declaration confirming the right to vote exclusively in local elections, issued by the local Council in original form, legalized with Apostille (see Box TRANSLATIONS AND LEGALIZATIONS), or sent by email to the applicant and copied to statocivile.londra@esteri.it;

Or

  • Certificate of Non-Naturalization issued by the Home Office UK Border Agency for those who have resided in the UK since 01/10/1986. If the individual resided in the UK prior to that date, a certificate of non-naturalization issued by The National Archives must also be submitted.

For other countries:
• Certificate of Non-Naturalization issued by the competent authorities of the foreign country of emigration, certifying that the parent never acquired citizenship of that country. This certificate must be duly legalized/apostilled and translated into Italian (*SEE BOX TRANSLATIONS AND LEGALIZATIONS).
If the individual has resided in multiple countries (e.g., Argentina, Brazil, United Kingdom) for a period sufficient to acquire citizenship through naturalization under local laws, certificates of non-naturalization or naturalization must be provided for each relevant country.

The Consulate will carry out the necessary checks on the declarations made in the Self-declaration form by verifying the information with the relevant Municipalities.

Please note that the processing time of the application also depends on the response times of the Municipalities.

IMPORTANT: If Case 1 does not apply, the application may be submitted under one of the two following cases.
