Information for Tourists in the United Kingdom

Before you travel, consult the page dedicated to the United Kingdom on Viaggiaresicuri.it or download the PDF fact sheet and register on Servizi UdC (dovesiamonelmondo.it).

Entry Requirements

Entry into the United Kingdom, including for airport transit, is only permitted with a passport, which must be valid for at least the entire duration of your stay in the country, and with an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation).

EU identity cards issued by Italy can only be used by EU citizens holding “settled status” or “pre-settled status” under the Withdrawal Agreement, or by the other limited categories indicated on this page: Visiting the UK as an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen.

Italian citizens entering the UK for tourism do not require a visa for stays of up to 6 months.

Dual Italian-British citizens are advised to consult the UK Government website (section Travelling to the UK).

If you are travelling to the UK for any other reason, please check the type of visa required:

Unaccompanied Minors

Minors aged 14–18 may travel unaccompanied with some airlines. It is always advisable to check with the airline before purchasing a ticket.

The minor must in any case carry a letter in both Italian and English, signed by the parents, authorising the trip, providing all their contact details and the address where the minor will stay during their stay in the UK.

For more information: Visit the UK as a Standard Visitor: If you’re under 18 – GOV.UK

Minors under 18 are generally not allowed to stay in hotels or other accommodation facilities unless accompanied by an adult. It is always advisable to check with the relevant facility before booking.
