Tax Code

THE TAX CODE

The tax code is the citizen’s means of identification in relation with all Italian authorities and public administrations.

Italian nationals legally residing in the London consular district and registered in AIRE will be able to download the tax code certificate using the Fast It Portal.

How?

  1. Log in to the Fast It Portal;
  2. Click on “Consular Register And AIRE”, then click on “Attribuzione Codice Fiscale”;
  3. Confirm your details and submit your request;
  4. Please check your inbox: you will be notified once your request has been processed;
  5. Log in to the Fast It portal again. You will now be able to download your tax code certificate.

If you cannot download your tax code certificate:

  1. Register or log in to your Fast It account;
  2. Click on “Consular Register And AIRE”, then click on “Comunicare la variazione della propria residenza”;
  3. Once you receive an email confirming your account activation, log in again and follow the steps above to download your certificate.

 

If your wish to apply for your child, please ensure that the birth certificate has been registered with the Municipality in Italy. Check here how to register a birth in Italy .

Please note that we no longer issue plastic cards. If you have an Electronic Identity Card (CIE), the Italian tax code is shown on your document.

Special cases

Applications on behalf of a deceased person: please contact us at cf.londra@esteri.it providing a copy of the following:

  • identity document of the deceased person;
  • death certificate;
  • applicant’s passport;
  • a recent proof of address in the name of the applicant.

 APPLICATION FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS

Foreign nationals living within the London consular district can apply for an Italian tax code under these two categories:

A) using  prenot@mi

 How?

  1. by filling out the AA4/8 form(Instructions on how to fill in this form – pdf)
  2. booking a virtual appointment on the portal prenot@miand attaching the form AA4/8 form

duly completed and signed (to be uploaded clicking “other”) together with a copy of your passport and proof of address within the London consular district.

Applicants are NOT required to come to the Consulate on the day booked: they will receive the TAX Code certificate by email within 5 working days.

 

B) Or through a special power of attorney delegating a person to submit the Tax Code application form directly to the offices of the Revenue Agencylocated in Italy, according to Article 1 of Ministerial Decree No. 281 of May 17, 2001.The Web Site addresses of the Italian Revenue Agency is it, while for the legalisation of foreign documents: Legalizzazione documenti – Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale

 

Foreign nationals who intend to stay in Italy can apply for a tax code under these two categories:

  • Citizens of EU countries can apply for the Tax Code by submitting the AA4/8 form to a territorial office of the Italian Revenue Agency agenziaentrate.it. The request must be motivated and accompanied by a valid document (passport or identity card valid for expatriation).
  • Citizens of non-EU countries can apply for a Tax Code:
    • by the Single Immigration Desk, present in each Prefettura and responsible for issuing entry clearance (nulla osta) to foreign citizens who apply for a residence permit for employment or family reunification;
    • by the Police Headquarters (Questura), State Police office, for foreign citizens who apply for other types of residence permits.
