Translation and legalisation of documents

Please note that this Consulate General does not carry out translations, nor does it certify translations carried out by others (certificazione della conformità della traduzione all’originale in lingua inglese), except for “dichiarazioni di valore” (declarations of equivalent value) of British qualifications and the registration through this Consulate General of civil status documents of Italian nationals.

For the certified translation of official British documents from English into Italian, please find the following options:

  1. Use a sworn translator in Italy (lists are available at the Italian Law Courts);
  2. Have a pre-prepared translation certified by one of the Italian Law Courts or Italian “Comuni” (town halls);
  3. Have the British documents translated by a professional translator registered in one of the following official UK Institutes of Translators: Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), Association of Translation Companies (ATC).
    • The translated document will have to contain the following information:
      • the sentence: “La presente traduzione in italiano è conforme all’originale in lingua inglese allegato”;
      • the date of the translation;
      • personal details of the translator: name, surname, address, place and date of birth.
    • Subsequently, a Notary Public will have to certify the authenticity of the translator’s signature and their membership to one of the above Institutes of Translators;
    • The Notary Public’s signature will then have to be apostilled (legalised) by the UK Legalization Office ((FCDO).

For the translation of documents from Italian into English, you will need to contact a professional translator available online or find one from our list  professionals and institutions.
