An Italian citizen getting married abroad does not need to submit any ‘Marriage banns’ (except if getting married in Albania).

In the case of a marriage in the United Kingdom between two Italian citizens or an Italian citizen and a foreign citizen, no prior formalities are required by the Italian authorities.
The Italian citizen must present a civil status certificate in English to the British authorities, which can be requested from this Consulate (if registered with AIRE). For more details, see: How to obtain a Certificate.
Once the marriage has been celebrated, it must be registered with the relevant Italian municipality, following the procedure described on the page: How to register a marriage in Italy.
In the case of a marriage in another foreign Country, the Italian citizen must:
a) Contact the local authorities of that Country to understand the documentation required to get married.
For those Italians registered with Aire, the Consulate General of Italy in London can issue a ”certificato contestuale”, or a ”Capacita’ Matrimoniale” according to the Munich Convention on 05.09.1980 (see below).
b) Contact the Italian Consulate (or Embassy, if the Consulate is not present) in that Country to verify the procedures for registering the foreign marriage certificate in Italy.
