Family reunification

The family reunification visa allows entrance in Italy to:

A. Spouse, if not legally separated and not under 18 years of age;

B. Civil partners;

C. Unmarried children under 18 years of age (provided still a minor < 18yrs of age on the date of the requested Nulla Osta from the SUI listed on point 4 below), including children of the spouse and children born out of wedlock, provided that the other parent (if there is another parent), has given his/her consent;

D. Dependent children who have reached their majority, if they are unable to support their indispensable necessities of life because of their health conditions entailing total disability;

E. Dependent parents:

a. if they have no other descendants in their country of origin or provenance who can support them;

b. if they are over 65 and other descendants in their country of origin or provenance cannot support them for serious and documented health reasons.

Please note

Dependent parents must prove there are no descendants in their country of origin (if applicable), their health condition and their dependant status with any evidence, such as: wire transfers, receipts of money transfers, provision of accommodation, rental payments, documents certifying that the applicant does not have income deriving from annuities or pensions, demonstration that the applicant does not have any source of income or rather that their sources of income is insufficient for their own maintenance in the local economic and social context.

All documents must be printed out and presented in original plus a photocopy where required. Applicants should always appear in person. Applicants must provide:

1) Duly completed application form [click here];

2) Valid passport or travel document (original plus one photocopy), valid at least 3 months and with at least two blank pages. The passport will be kept and returned with the visa, if approved;

3) Valid UK Residence Permit (original plus one photocopy);

4) “Nulla Osta” (entry clearance) issued no more than 6 months earlier by the competent “Sportello Unico” (Unified Immigration Desk);

5) Proof of relationship: marriage/civil partnership/birth certificate (original plus one photocopy). Please, note:

a. marriage/civil partnership certificates older than 6 months will NOT be accepted;

b. certificates issued by a foreign authority other than the UK, MUST be translated in English or Italian and legalised by the Italian Consular Office of the issuing Country OR by the Consular Authority in the UK of the issuing Country;

c. certificates issued by one of the Schengen countries will be accepted only if multilingual, otherwise please refer to second note;

d. those applying for permanent residency in Italy through marriage to an Italian citizen must register their marriage at the Consulate General of Italy in London before applying for the visa;

6) Residence card with at least 1 year validity or long-term resident’s EU residence permit of the family member in Italy (original plus one photocopy);

7) In case of minors, written consent from the other parent granting permission to travel. Please, note:

a. the parental consent must be notarised by a UK notary;

b. if the parent lives abroad, the consent must be notarised by the Italian Consulate of their country of residence (for more information, please visit the following website https://www.esteri.it/mae/en/servizi/stranieri/traduzionelegalizzazione-dei-documenti.html). This also applies when parents living abroad nominate a guardian;

c. a photocopy of both parents’ passports must be provided.

8) One way travel ticket reservation. Please note:

a. if travelling by plane, train or bus the ticket must be printed directly from the airline/train line/bus operator, showing passenger’s name, dates, from/to;

b. if traveling by car, ferry tickets or euro tunnel ticket reservations are required showing passenger’s name, dates, from/to;

c. if traveling among multiple Schengen countries, travel ticket reservations showing passenger’s name, dates, from/to between each country is mandatory.

PLEASE NOTE

Citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and Travel Documents holders (with the three letters code XXA or XXB appearing in the ICAO) need to provide full names of mother and father and it must result from a birth certificate or Consular declaration.

PLEASE NOTE

Family members of an Italian or EU citizen do not need the Nulla Osta. Particularly:

a. Visa exempt nationalities can join the family member in Italy without applying for any visa. Once in Italy, they must register themselves with the local Anagrafe and apply for a residence card at the relevant Questura within 3 months from their arrival.

b. Those nationalities who require a visa, can apply for a tourism visa to travel to Italy as a EU family member and, within 3 months from their arrival, they must register themselves with the local Anagrafe and apply for a residence card at the relevant Questura.
