Processing times for Schengen visa applications are 15-45 days.
Students enrolling in Italian University Programs
When requesting an entry visa for Laurea/Diploma accademico di primo livello (bachelors) applicants are required to submit:
- Printed UNIVERSITALY pre-enrolment summary validated by the University;
- Original copy of their final secondary education qualification, obtained after at least 12 years of schooling, or any alternative but equivalent certificate with legal validity, or a certificate issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) or a Declaration of Value for certificates from foreign official bodies;
- Certificate declaring the pass grade of a specific academic exam where required for entry to university in the country of origin;
- Translations of the documents listed in points 1) and 2) if these are not issued in English or Italian;
- Any other documents deemed useful for the verification of the authenticity of the foreign qualification;
When requesting an entry visa for Laurea Magistrale o specialistica/Diploma accademico di secondo livello courses and, more generally, for second and third cycle courses, applicants are requested to submit:
- Printed UNIVERSITALY pre-enrolment summary validated by the University;
- Official foreign qualification (Degree) issued by a higher education institution that allows the continuation of studies in the issuing country at academic institutions at the next level (second cycle of the Bologna Process/level 7 or 8 EQF) and that does not present any “substantial difference” according to the principles of the Lisbon Convention and the national methodology adopted by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA); or a certificate issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA), by a certificate from foreign official bodies or by a Declaration of Value;
- University transcripts issued by the university of reference stating the exams passed, as well as, for each subject, detailed programmes for the completion of said qualifications. Additionally, they can check whether translations of the required certificates are exempted for specific foreign languages. Post -secondary studies, including exams and credits already completed, can be certified through the Diploma Supplement, if available.
- Translations of the documents listed in points 1) and 2) if these are not issued in English or Italian;
- Any other documents deemed useful for the verification of the authenticity of the foreign qualification;
Exchange and mobility programs
Applicants are required to submit:
- Letter of acceptance from the University in Italy (not older than 1 month), specifying the type of course, number of weekly hours and dates;
- Letter from the University in the UK (not older than 1 month) confirming enrolment and applicant’s mobility program;
Students independently attending a course on Italian Language/Culture
Applicants are required to submit:
- Documentation concerning their socio-economic status in UK (for example employment status and/or whether currently in education);
- Letter of acceptance issued by the host Institution/school in Italy (not older than 1 month), describing the course’s type and level, number of weekly hours and dates;
- Transcripts of previous studies in the applicant’s home country;
- official copy of your Italian language diploma and/or a certificate of award previously obtained from a recognized Italian course provider;
- transcripts of any previously Italian courses/studies at secondary school and/or University/college level.
Curricular Internship program
Applicants are required to submit:
- Proof that your hosting Institution (a vocational training centre, a University or an Institute of higher education) is authorised to issue academics qualifications by the Italian MUR/Region or has an agreement with or is accredited in the Region or Province it operates in – in regime di convenzione.
- Documentation concerning the curricular internship programme (as per Art. 39 – bis comma 1- bis of TU 286/98): the student will have to provide the training agreement – convenzione di formazione – between the sending institution, the receiving institution and the student. The agreement must include: the program of the internship, dates, resources made available to the student during the stay for board and lodging costs and details of the medical insurance provided.
- Letter (not older than 1 month) from the University in the UK confirming the details of the internship program;
Extracurricular Internship program
Applicants are required to submit:
- Documentation concerning the internship program: Internship programs are organised by authorised entities (as per Art. 2 paragraph 1 of Decree of Ministry of Labour and Welfare N. 142 dated 03.25.1998) and are implemented according to a specific agreement between the promoting institution and the hosting employer. The visa can be requested by submitting a formal internship project (as per Art. 18 of Law N. 196/97 and Art. 4 of the D.M. N. 142/98) duly stamped by the competent Italian Region;
- Transcript of previous studies in the applicant’s home country.
Professional training
Applicants are required to submit:
- Enrolment letter in a professional training course, mentioning its duration, subject of the training program, credentials etc. The selected course must be coherent with previous education organised by training entities authorised to perform professional training programs (as per Art. 142 paragraph 1, letter d, DL 112/1998 and Decree of the Ministry of Labour N. 166 dated 05.25.2001). The course cannot exceed the duration of 24 months and must aim to obtain a professional qualification or recognition of the achieved skills. The training entity must declare in the enrolment letter that it has been accredited according to the above-mentioned laws to carry out professional training courses;
- Transcript of previous studies in the applicant’s home country.
In addition to the documents listed above, all applicants who are applying for a study visa of any kind will need to submit:
- Application form duly filled up and signed. For short stay visas up to 90 days please download and complete Schengen Visa application form [For long stay visas beyond 90 days please download and complete Long term application form [click here];
- Valid passport or travel document (original plus photocopy), valid at least 3 months beyond the return date of your trip from Italy and at least with two blank pages for Schengen visa. Valid passport or travel document (original plus photocopy), valid at least 3 months and with at least with two blank pages for National/long stay visa. The passport will be kept and returned with the visa, if approved;
- UK Residence Permit (original plus photocopy), valid at least 3 months beyond the return date of your trip in Italy for Schengen visa. Valid UK residence permit for National/long stay visa;
- Round-trip travel ticket reservation for short-term Schengen visa shorter than 90 days. One way travel tickets reservation for long-term National visa longer than 90 days. Please note:
– if travelling by plane, train or bus the ticket must be printed directly from the airline/train line/bus operator, showing passenger’s name, dates, from/to;
– if travelling by car, ferry tickets or Eurotunnel tickets are required, alongside with car registration (original plus photocopy) car insurance (original plus photocopy) and driving licence If renting a car, the same documentation is required plus the car rental documents;
– if travelling to multiple Schengen countries, travel tickets between each country is mandatory;
– bookings made through travel agencies or third parties will only be accepted if based in the UK or in one of the Schengen countries. Travel tickets must always be issued by the airline/train line/bus operator.
- Proof of accommodation: rental agreement or booked accommodation. If applicant is staying with friends/family, a letter of invitation is required [for a template click here] along with the host’s ID (valid residence permit for non-EU citizens);
- Travel insurance, issued in the UK or in one of the Schengen countries, covering at least the first 2 weeks of period of stay in Italy and valid for all Schengen countries. Health insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000 for emergency hospital and repatriation expenses. If your current insurance company does not provide such coverage, you are requested to find an international insurance. Specific insurance policies for students are available through universities upon arrival in Italy. If the insurance cover is not specified in the acceptance letter from the Italian university, a declaration in a form of “affidavit” (self-declaration) is required;
- Proof of financial means of support while in Italy, as Tabella della Direttiva del Ministero dell’Interno 1/3/2000 (this amounts to the equivalent of 10.179,85 EUR per year). This can be proven through: personal last 3 months’ bank statement OR parents’ last 3 months’ UK bank statements alongside applicant’s birth certificate and a photocopy of the parent’s passport. Please note that:
– certificates issued by a foreign authority other than the UK, must be translated in English or Italian and legalised by the Italian Consular Office of the issuing Country or by the Consular Authority of the issuing Country in the UK;
– certificates issued by one of the Schengen countries will be accepted only if submitted multilingual format.
PLEASE NOTE
Citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Yemen and Travel Documents holders (with the three letters code XXA or XXB appearing in the ICAO) need to provide full names of mother and father and it must result from a birth certificate or Consular declaration.
